In a second bid to conquer the Falls, David Munday plunged over the Falls in September 26, 1993 in a 4 foot diameter, red and white steel barrel, painted with Canadian maple leafs on the outside. The barrel contained 2” of padding. Munday carried a walkie talkie but no oxygen.
He entered the Falls about 100 metres above them. It took him approximately 5 seconds to plunge over. The barrel was retrieved and towed to the Maid of the Mist landing where four bolts were opened.
Munday emerged from the barrel about 45 minute after his plunge, badly shaken, but with no visible injuries.
He was charged by Niagara Parks Police under the Trespass Property Act and under the Niagara Parks Act with “stunting on Niagara Parks lands without permission.”
Munday’s original barrel is on display at the Daredevil Gallery, IMAX® Theatre, Niagara Falls.
